Just Because: John Slattery

Full Disclosure, I don't watch Mad Men. Not sure why, there is just something about the clips I have seen that don't pull me in. John Slattery on the other hand can pull me anywhere. It is time I picked up season one on DVD and experienced what all the fuss is about.



GQ is a magazine I only buy a couple of times a year. I understand and respect the magazine's desire to reach men of all ages, but it usually ends up somehow missing mine. Trying to meet the needs of men 17-70 means many ages in between cannot help but be left out. The issues I pick up seem either seemed aimed at teens or seniors. That being said it was a refreshing and sexy change seeing John on last months cover. John is described in print in many ways but given he is still not quite 50 I think old is a bit premature. Hot covers it nicely.

Wes Brown: Dirty Little Secrets

Is anyone watching Scandal? I almost didn't. My love affair with show creator Shonda Rhimes is sort of on the skids. Grey's Anatomy had been my favorite television drama but the last season or two have been almost unwatchable. (Give Alex a decent storyline, ditch the new interns, all the new characters actually except Arizona...we don't care... Get Christina her groove back and bring the hope, so central to the first few seasons back!!!). I don't watch Private Practice but decided to give Scandal a shot and finished watching the shows first two episodes on DVR last night.



Far fetched, soapy with manipulative editing and far too many camera tricks. Still, the pace and story were instantly addictive. Kerry Washington tries a little too hard to be too cool for school, but she leads and impressive supporting cast of characters. Although I am sure the producers think having a President is important for drama, my love for actor Tony Goldwyn did not make up for the fact his scenes dragged down the shows pace.



Despite all the action going on, guest actor Wes Brown stood out in the pilot, aptly titled Dirty Little Secrets. I instantly was at attention when his character Sully St. James walked into the office bloody and in shock. Sully's secret was a doozy and although played out well, could have been more powerful if written over a couple of episodes. A former model, Wes has been busy on television working as a semi-regular on Hart Of Dixie and True Blood. Brown has also had multiple episode appearances on Private Practice and Trauma with many one-shots in between. Wes Brown: One to Watch!

Forbidden Fruit: Pastor John Tudor

I haven't really watched much of GCB but the sight of Tyler Jacob Moore as Pastor John certainly leads to a rise in my spirituality. Although I would like nothing better than to frock Pastor John, thus far his clerical garb has remained tightly on. Thankfully Tyler also co-stars on Showtime's Shameless where defrocking is a weekly event.

Thierre di Castro: Shameless

I have had Shameless on my list of shows to try for some time now. Not only has it produced great nudity from Steve Howey & Justin Chatwin it as produced great buzz and critical acclaim.



Last weeks episode included a rare nude scene from Harry Hamlin as well this incredible scene (and the incredible butt) of model and actor Thierre di Castro. The former beach volleyball player was also winner of 2010 Model Universe contest representing his home, Brazil. Since hitting Hollywood Thierre has been featured in numerous tv guest spots and commercials (including Old Navy below) and hopefully his memorable appearance in Shameless will have others paying attention!

The New Green Arrow!

I loved me some Justin Hartley, but Canadian actor Stephen Amell is certainly not a disappointment donning Oliver Queens's green leather suit! Executive producer David Nutter says not to expect another Smallville, and says this Arrow is a different show, darker and harder-edged. Some of you might remember Stephen from his recent role on Hung and his breakout role in Dante's Cove (see below).

Red-Handed: Jesse Hutch in Once Upon A Time

Fairy Tales are all the rage on television and on film these days but I had yet to run into the forest until this past Sunday's episode, Red-Handed of Once Upon A Time. I enjoyed the shows pilot, then watched sporadically until this week. This weeks episode, which delved into Red Ridinghood's back story was my favorite outing of the series thus far.



Sadly, the show repeated again it's pattern of killing off (usually savagely) it's hottest of hunks! I was instantly taken with Peter, actor Jesse Hutch who paid dearly for loving, and trusting in Red.



The Canadian born Hutch looked familiar, but I could not quite place him until I hit IMDB. There I saw his credits, and like most young Canadian actors, Hutch spent a fair amount of time on US shows filmed in Canada Kyle XY, Smallville and The 4400) and many horror flicks (Freddy & Jason) which for financial reasons, often get shot north of the border.
