Kudos to Jon Hamm

    'Stupidity is certainly celebrated.'

I don't generally support calling anyone stupid. I am not so sure however Jon Hamm called any one person stupid, I think his point was that the American public celebrates and even worse, in these very difficult times, financially support the stupid actions of others. I am not sure even Kim or Paris themselves could argue they have both made many stupid moves in their negotiation and manipulation of the American public and press.

I applaud Hamm however for saying what so many of us think. We are a dumbed down culture where PBS struggles to survive (yeah Downton Abbey!) and Snooki makes the cover of national magazines. Paris thank goodness is pretty much history, replaced of course by Kim who seems on her way out. Sadly someone else is already in the wings, just waiting to drop his or her undies, grab the bottle and head to center stage. The spotlight stupidity is not on them however, it should be shined brightly on those who remain seated in the audience for the next show. That theatre, if we were smart, would be long empty.

Kudos to "8"

Kudos t writer Dustin Lance Black, director Rob Reiner and the entire cast of last nights American Equal Rights presentation of '8'. The entire reading was superb with stand out performances to me by Chris Colfer, Christine Lahti, Jamie Lee Curtin, George Clooney, Martin Sheen and Jansen Panettiere. I would have removed two of the celebs involved only because they bug me but overall I don't want to dwell on anything negative about this moving production. I was really happy I got home in time to watch live as although I recommend anyone who did not watch it to catch it on Youtbe, there was something exciting about watching it as it played out live, it felt as if you were actually apart of something important.

Kudos to George Clooney

“I think it’s funny, but the last thing you’ll ever see me do is jump up and down, saying, ‘These are lies!’ That would be unfair and unkind to my good friends in the gay community. I’m not going to let anyone make it seem like being gay is a bad thing. My private life is private, and I’m very happy in it. Who does it hurt if someone thinks I’m gay? I’ll be long dead and there will still be people who say I was gay. I don’t give a shit.”

Finally a celeb gets it! A masterclass to anyone, even gay celebs! Clooney's allure has escaped me over the years, but between his quote in The Advocate and his tux appeal at the Oscars I am finally starting to get it!

Kudos to Jim Rash

Above:Nat Faxon, Alexander Payne and Jim Rash

To be honest I can't really be bothered to write a full review of last nights Oscars. I guess I have reached the point where dispute all the hype, the show has generally been nothing less than colossally boring for quite awhile now. I must though give credit for Jim Rash, who while accepting his award for adapted screenplay, who unlike the shows host, made a great 'in the moment' jab at Angelina's pose. That pose is everywhere today including having it's own Twitter page!

Kudos to Maya Rudolph

Maya Rudolph proved last night that even with weak writing, a talented comedian and actress can rise above and put on a great show. Last nights SNL provided me with some of the biggest laughs of an otherwise lackluster season. I am not so sure the skits were any better than other weeks, but the amazing Rudolph managed to get something out of each and every character and scene she was in.

Kudos to Amy Farrah Fowler

Like many of you i bet, I re-watched Mayim Bialik's 'Glory Of Love' number more than a few times on the old VHS copy of Beaches we rented back in the early 90's. I truly hated the movie but that few minutes of the movie unveiled a true talent. For some reason though I had little to no interest in following Bialik in any of the projects that came after. Not sure why, but even Joey Lawrence could not get me to watch the annoying half hour that was Blossom.

I did however maintain my respect for Bialik. When I would see her on talk shows, I loved her attitude and intelligence. Sometimes it takes just the right character to allow an actor to truly shine. Big Bang Theory does just that with Amy Farrah Fowler. I have loved Bialik's Amy since her first episode but the last two seasons she has been providing some of the shows biggest laughs.

The scene a couple of weeks ago when Sheldon presented Amy with a tiara was one of the most hilarious scenes I have seen on a sit-com (especially an American one) in awhile. The brilliance came stemmed yes from the writing but mostly from how Bialik nails Amy with every word and line put in front of her. Amy reminds me a bit of a Muppet. Even without dialogue, Bialik uses her characters limited range of emotions, to create, like a Muppet, hilarious over the top facial expressions.

Kudos to Michael Fassbender

Sadly, the talented Michael Fassbender did not score a deserved Oscar nomination yesterday. Fassbender is getting a ton of attention of getting naked in Shame, and although I love me some naked, I hope it does overshadow his brilliant performance.

I am going to resist sharing the caps (and they are out there already), as they are not great quality and would rather wait for a better print to cap. In the meantime however, FH contributor, not to mention one of it's popular subject, David Asset recently posted this commercial Michael did for SAS Airlines earlier in his career.

Kudos to Daniel Radcliffe

I am not sure the writing of this weeks SNL was really that much better than last weeks but...Daniel Radcliffe proves when you have a host with some talent it makes all the difference in the world.

    Caps below by Superherofan

It is a little surprising given it's years on the air, Lorne Michaels and SNL have seemingly not learned from past mistakes. Last weeks Charles Barkley episode was painfully bad. Between the writing and Barkley's tortured cue card reading, it was like watching a bad grade school dress rehearsal. (thank goodness for DVR's and the >> button) It is not that having an athlete or politician as host is so bad. But...what SNL continues to fail at is choosing to write for them instead of the better choice of writing around them. It was obvious they tried to bring out something in Barkley (and he is not without appeal). Instead, when there is a week with a Barkley, there should be Stefon, Wiig's best and brightest, and the characters the audience loves to see.

What Radcliffe was able to do so well (besides showing his beautiful chest), was to use his considerable acting and stage skills to showcase his personality, even when the sketches could not. I think most of last nights concepts were winning, but sadly they all went on a few minutes too long. We shall we what Channing Tatum does (hopefully he will rip off his shirt as well) when he takes on the host role in February.

Kudos to Edina and Patsy

I was a little worried when I found out Absolutely Fabulous coming back again. I only discovered the series through DVD and was laughing my ass off at Jennifer Saunders and company long after the series went off the air. (back in the day it was the perfect show to watch high)

With a good, but not great, Christmas episode, the New Year's show was back to the high level of hilarity viewers have come to expect from the writing and the cast. Speaking of the cast, they all look amazing espcially given the show went off the air in 2004. Some, like Julia Sawalha, actually look younger! Keep em coming Jennifer!

Kudos to The Kennedy Center Honors

Above: The 2012 recipients, Sonny Rollins, Barbara Cook, Yo-Yo Ma, Meryl Streep and Neil Diamond with the Clinton's.

Kudos to The Kennedy Center Honors show. Just finished my DVR recording and start to finish it was an amazing couple of hours of entertainment. Anne Hathaway aside (sorry, she is amazingly talented but annoys me a little) everyone gracing the stage was incredibly talented. I have always loved Yo Yo Ma but learning more about him only deepened my feelings. With all the talent on that stage, I think my favorite performance of the night was Jennifer Nettles singing Neil Diamond's Hello Again. I could listen to her voice, and that version all day.

Kudos to Weekend Update

There was a time when I watched SNL (especially on DVR) when the least funny part of the show was weekend update. My fast forward button usually worked overtime during this segment, especially in the 90's.

This past Saturday weekend update was the only part of the show that drew laughs. Despite her success in the sketch last year when she was the musical guest, Katy Perry failed to deliver much this time. The writing did not help, but there are some people who come off better in small doses. I don't even remember the musical guest (after the first few seconds I skipped on by).

Weekend update however was hilarious. Starting with Kristin Wig's 'flirt' followed by Alec Balwin and topped off by Stefon (Bill Hader's Stefon has been funnier but anytime he appears is welcomed). Seth Myers has turned a low point into pretty much the only point in watching lately.

Kudos to Chandler Massey

I have not had much time to watch much television lately but did begin setting my dvr to Days Of Our Lives again a few weeks ago after reading that the show finally officially committed to Will's coming out storyline. Chandler Massey seems like a great guy, sensitive and proud of the storyline and touching carefully but succinctly on the right notes of confusion, anger and pain. I have never seen, only read, about other soap opera coming outs but this one is hitting close to home for me and I look forward to watching it unfold.

Kudos to Dominic Cooper in The Devil's Double

I am not sure why but until The Devil's Double actor Dominic Cooper was not even remotely on my radar. I am not sure I really saw him in too much actually. I think I knew him most from him being in Mamma Mia and I only got about 10 minutes into that movie before turning it off.

Checking IMDB I of course saw many of Cooper in many of his earlier roles but again he never jumped off the screen the way he did in The Devil's Double. His dual performance was flawless from beginning to end and I hope he is remembered as we enter the award season. The film is incredible, hard to watch at times due to violence and the immense level of cruelty but it never let go of me until the credits began to role.

Kudos to Jessica Lange in American Horror Story

'There's not going to be a swimming pool, you stupid slut'
    Constance

In my last year in University I took this incredible course called 'The History of Mental Disorders'. The course was incredible as the professor didn't really teach much he just pressed play each week on VCR. Each week he played one movie after another about the history of every kind of mental disorder depicted in the movies. One of these movies was Jessica Lange's turn as Francis Farmer in Francis from 1982. Up until the point I had only seen Lange on television in King Kong and thought of her more as a sex symbol more than an actress. I of course was wrong. Lange has become a favorite of mine. I cannot believe I waited until just a few years ago to first watch Tootsie, but I have watched it twice since.

Lange is absolutely brilliant as Constance in American History Story and although I love entire show, Lange's scenes, and quotes are my favorite part of the 44 minutes. Lange's line delivery is incredible and she plays off each of the cast members equally well. I am going to miss her relationship with Ade, but given the dead seem never to actually die on this show hopefully there will be more.

'Do you know what they think when you walk down the street'
    Constance

Some my favorite men who co-starred with Lange:

    Chris O'Donnell in
    Men Don't Leave

I have not really loved the trajectory of Chris O'Donnell's career but...as a teenager I loved Chris in his early films. I haven't seen Men Don't Leave in awhile and will have to track it down on Amazon to watch again.

    Dennis Quaid in
    Everybody's All-American

Dennis Quaid, Dennis Quaids butt, nuff said!

    Jeff Bridges in
    King Kong

I was just a kid when I saw the 76 version of King Kong on television during a Saturday afternoon matinee. From there I tried to watch it every time it came on tv until I finally managed to tape it on my VHS machine. The film is flawed but to me is so much more enjoyable than the recent Peter Jackson version. This King Kong has Jeff Bridges (with his long hair), Jessica, and an Ape whose emotions are far more real, even in an Ape Suit, than Jackson could digitally portray.

    Jack Nicholson in
    The Postman Always Rings Twice

I think the first time I saw Jack Nicholson on screen when I was about 10 or 11. I went with a friend and his family to see 'The Witches Of Eastwick'. I fell in love with two things during that movie, Michelle Pfieffer and Jack's acting. Jack's devil was brilliantly over the top and I have sought out most of Jack's work since.
